More than a year and a half ago, Netflix dropped the sixth season of its hit fantasy series Lucifer. Ever since, fans have been waiting for an update on another season of the show, which follows the Devil Lucifer abdicating his throne in hell and starting his own nightclub in Los Angeles.
The series starred Tom Ellis in the lead and garnered huge viewership with each passing season. Audiences are now wondering if Lucifer will return to the screens with another season. Read on to find out.
Unfortunately, Lucifer will not come back with a season 7. The series ended with the season 6 finale on September 10, 2021. Netflix had announced the sixth season as the final one even before its premiere.
“This is it, the final season of Lucifer. For real, this time. The devil himself has become God… almost. Why is he hesitating? And as the world starts to unravel without a God, what will he do in response? Join us as we say a bittersweet goodbye to Lucifer, Chloe, Amenadiel, Maze, Linda, Ella and Dan. Bring tissues,” the streaming platform wrote, announcing the final season.
Lucifer originally aired on Fox from 2016 to 2018. However, the network decided to cancel the series after three seasons. Netflix then picked the show up and ordered two more seasons. In 2020, the streaming platform renewed the series for the sixth and final season.
Why did Lucifer End with Season 6?
Lucifer was one of the most-watched shows on Netflix and always made it to the top 10 list in several countries. The streaming service was happy with the show, and hence, ending the show was purely a creative decision by the makers. The creators initially planned to conclude the show in five seasons. However, after season 5, Netflix asked the showrunners to write another installment.
Co-showrunner Joe Henderson explained the decision in an interview in 2020. He stated, “It’s the story we were always going to tell, but just written much larger and to me [now] so much more interestingly that it breaks my heart to think we weren’t [originally] going to do it this way. When they were like, ‘Can you do one more?’ we said, ‘Yes, but this is our last story.’”
“It was very, very similar to when we went from 10 episodes to 16 [in season 5]. [We were] like, ‘No, this is perfect. If we do this, it’ll ruin everything!’ Then three days later, you’re like, ‘Wait, how could we not have done this?’” Henderson added.
Who Starred in Lucifer?
Apart from Tom Ellis in the titular role, the show starred Lauren German as Detective Chloe Decker, Kevin Alejandro as Detective Daniel “Dan” Espinoza, D. B. Woodside as Amenadiel, Lesley-Ann Brandt as Mazikeen, Scarlett Estevez as Beatrice “Trixie” Espinoza, Rachael Harris as Dr. Linda Martin, and Kevin Rankin as Detective Malcolm Graham.
The cast also included Aimee Garcia as Ella Lopez, Tom Welling as Lieutenant Marcus Pierce, Brianna Hildebrand as Aurora, and Inbar Lavi as Eve. The series was developed by Tom Kapinos, who also served as executive producer, along with Ellis, Henderson, Ildy Modrovich, Len Wiseman, Jonathan Littman, and Jerry Bruckheimer.
Lucifer seasons 1 through 6 are streaming on Netflix. Stay tuned for more news and updates.
