The Big Bang Theory, much like many sitcoms, showed beloved characters doing good and bad things. This is what appeals to us when watching a sitcom. It is all about finding humor in the flaws and qualities of a person. Amy's first appearance on the show was in the season 3 finale, during which Howard and Raj find her as a possible match for Sheldon on an online dating website. She is introduced as a female version of Sheldon and the two end up marrying by the end of the show.
There's a lot Reddit got to say about how Amy was written as a character over the course of the show. Some things she did were questionable at best, and some – downright creepy. "What about the time she rubs and licks Sheldon's stuff to "spread her scent". That's the creepiest thing and still gives me shivers of disgust." – u/Lyrogers Pushing Penny Into Having Kids Perhaps one of the creepier things that Amy did on the show was blackmail Penny to convince her that she should have kids. During the final season, Penny decided that she does not want to have children, which is unique for a lead sitcom character. However, the entire cast judges her decision and guilts her into reconsidering.
It was especially odd to see the strong and accomplished women of the show trying to guilt Penny into having kids, instead of defending their friend. Penny ultimately gets pregnant by the end of the season, shutting down her wants and giving in to peer pressure.
Guilt-tripping was one of Amy's finest flaws.
When Bernadette is planning her wedding, she made Amy the maid of honor. However, Amy is hurt by the fact that Penny and Bernadette when shopping for dresses without her. This leads to Amy becoming the maid of honor from hell. She comes up with weird ideas for the bachelorette party, and Bernadette feels too guilty to say no.
The Big Bang Theory Revival is Totally Possible, But There's a Catch
Additionally, Amy manages to make the wedding all about herself. When the wedding was going to be called off, she was not worried about how her friend was feeling. She was even worse when she found out that Bernadette and Howard decided to get married on their own without a huge party.
Amy had good qualities, like how she cared for Sheldon in later seasons and showed her love for him. However, much like Sheldon, she was a very selfish person who would often only think about how things affected her.
A lot of her compromises involved Sheldon, rather than involving her close friends who were frequently there for her. Overall, it does not feel genuine that she, as an independent and established woman, would only change because of her significant other and often attack other women.
